English Channel Swim · 10 August 2022

Every two hours someone in the UK is paralysed by a spinal cord injury. It can happen to anyone at any time and no one is prepared for how it will change their life. Aspire is a national charity that provides practical help, supporting spinal cord injured people from injury to independence.

Story

This year I will swim the channel as part of a relay team. This is something I've always wanted to but also something that seemed a very far off goal when I got diagnosed with Hip Dysplasia 5 years ago. After 4 big operations, 5 years of near constant pain and over a year in total on crutches. I am fixed! For now! This is not something I thought would be happening in my 30th year. Now 10 months into recovery and finally back in the pool, I made the channel team, so it’s time to put this bionic hip to good use and raise some money for a fantastic charity Aspire Spinal cord injury. Aspire provides practical help to people who have been paralysed by Spinal Cord Injury, supporting them from injury to independence. The swim itself consists of 22 miles across one of the busiest shipping lanes, boats, jelly fish and very cold water are some of the Channels selling points. The training is hard and adapting to the cold temperatures maybe even harder.

Please donate to this fantastic cause whilst I go and freeze my t**s off, train my butt off and head for France.

Thanks Holly x
