Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.  Your help with this is hugely appreciated ...

Firstly, it's important to me to let you know:
Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving - they'll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they'll send your money directly to the charity. So it's the most efficient way to donate - saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

And now for my Story about this:

For my birthday this year, celebrated on Wednesday 11th December, and for Jesus' birthday, ie Christmas, which is two weeks' hence, I wish to draw attention to the plight of the many homeless people on the streets of the United Kingdom.

I would like to ask everyone I know to help to make a difference to those many, many people who face this reality in our midst.

For every one person helped, the world becomes a brighter, warmer place.  Each of us has the means to make a small gesture towards this sharing of the light, by lifting someone else's spirits and doing for them what Love wishes for us on earth.

I would like to help Ps & Gs Church in their powerfully transformative work, in any way possible, to help them to meet the needs of the homeless, marginalised and suffering people in Edinburgh with this
particular fundraiser.

In this, I am directing the funds to the ongoing work of the Soul Food crew and the new Ps & Gs strategy / project called Stretch 25.

Let me tell you a little about SOUL FOOD ...

Every Saturday evening, throughout the year, Ps & Gs staff, friends and volunteers from the full spectrum of community provide a welcome and a hot meal for guests who would otherwise go without.

Every Saturday evening, at 5pm, the big red door on Queen Street (near the top of Broughton Street) opens to at least 100 people, who file into the hall, where tables and friendly faces are waiting to greet them.  Each is shown to a seat as volunteers welcome the guests, and a beautiful meal is provided, with love and kindness and support.

For many people who are suffering, in a variety of ways, this is the one time in the week that they are made to feel welcome and where they are loved, treated as having value for simply being who they were born to be ... a child of God. Each is cared about as a person who fits into the fabric of our society. A person with a name, an identity, a soul and a purpose to fulfil on this earth, just like each of us has.

There is no discrimination and no one is judged.

The tables are set out, the hall is beautifully lit and warm.  There are fresh flowers elegantly displayed on the altar of this calm and clean space, a welcome to everyone into the loving ambience, and food is ready to be served to those who otherwise seem to have no place.

Conversations are had and sharing is kind. Help and guidance are provided, where possible and appropriate to do so, in a sensitive and caring way.

In this call of mine, for gifts of help through financial donations, I would like to also recognise the fragility of life and of our life situations and to call all of my friends to bless me by blessing others for my 57th birthday, as well as for Christmas ... Christ's celebration of birth.

Please help me to share the love and please give what you can, so that my initial goal of £1,300 will be massively multiplied and we can surprise this incredible church of beautiful giving souls, with a blessing to help them with their phenomenal, loving work.

Thank you, from the bottom of my heart.

Happy everyday, Everyone, and a truly Merry Christmas to you as well.
