Story

We are excited to be walking a marathon to raise money for Macmillan so they can continue supporting those diagnosed with cancer and their families. I never dreamed my family would ever need their help so suddenly and critically and I am beyond grateful for their support.

When I came back home to NI in June 2020 for a few weeks, I never imagined I would still be there 2 years later. On 3rd August, my life changed forever when my big sister Courtney was diagnosed with terminal bowel cancer at 29 years old. She was alone and stuck in Chester, unable to leave the hospital or return home to see family and friends due to the pandemic. I thought I would never see my sister again.

That was until the amazing Macmillan nurses stepped in. They were kind, positive and determined, with only one priority in mind - get Courtney home no matter what it took. They truly left no stone unturned, going above and beyond to make this happen. They deeply understood the value of getting Courtney back to her friends, family, beloved pets and home for whatever time she had left.

After a long journey, Courtney came home on 12th August and for the next 30 days she enjoyed a tea party with friends, walks at the beach, lots of mint choc chip ice cream from Mauds, painting pottery, a spa day, garden party, family movie nights and cuddles with Coda her beloved dog. These special memories are ones which Courtneys friends and I will treasure forever and were only made possible by the efforts of the Macmillan nurses, who Courtney described as ‘angels’.

Macmillan provides all kinds of support to people impacted by cancer meaning that no one has to face it alone. They truly moved mountains to ensure Courtney’s comfort, safety and happiness were paramount. We are raising money to ensure they can continue providing this support to those who need it.

Thank you for your support!
