Mountain Bike Challenge For Veterans · 25 September 2010

Church Homeless Charity is a beacon of hope for those experiencing homelessness. We provide small, tailored grants to around 3,000 in England each year. Our grants provide a much needed helping hand - supporting people out of the cycle of homelessness and into safe, and secure homes.

Story

Huge thanks from our veterans for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.

PLEASE HELP ARMED FORCES VETERANS BY SPONSORING OUR 2 DAY MOUNTAIN BIKE CHALLENGE

In April 1999 Riverside ECHG contacted the Ministry of Defence to see how it could help homeless veterans.  Since then we have developed several services to help over 7000 veterans find suitable accommodation via SPACES,  to gain more info please visit www.spaces.org.uk  & www.riverside.org.uk

In 2011 a new accommodation project called The Beacon will opened in Catterick North Yorkshire.   Part of the project will be a Remembrance Garden which will be designed and built by veterans, this can only be made possible by donations from the public.

The challenge is as follows:

On the 25th September Mountain Bike riders will set off on a challenging 2 day charity ride in aid of Armed Forces Veterans, the route will take them through some of the most beautiful & demanding country side in the area.   They will be following mountain bike routes not for the faint hearted, covering more than 100 miles over the 2 days.

The ride will take them from Middlesbrough to York on day 1 following mountain bike route 65, then York to Richmond North Yorkshire for day 2, most of which should be on tarmac, the finish line will be Richmond Market Square on the 26th September.

Money raised will go towards a Remembrance Garden that will be part of a new project for homeless veterans called The Beacon, located in Catterick North Yorkshire, presently being built by Riverside ECHG.

Remembering past comrades is part and parcel of a veteran’s life, so it is veterans who will design & help create the Remembrance Garden the way they want it to be.

It will be (to use a cliché) a labour of love that will only be achieved by the willingness of unselfish people to help raise money, and the generosity of the British public to give to a worthy cause.

Should you wish to join the ride on either days contact Ian (pinky) Summersgill at .kaynpinky@msn.com

If you require sponsorship forms or further info please contact  trevor.morris@riverside.org.uk  or tony.holling@riverside.org.uk

So please join in, make a donation, tell friends about the fundraiser, hand out sponsor forms & turn up on the 26th September to help us say thank you to the riders taking part.
