Honk for BOB!

On the 5^th June, a friend Neil Laughton and I will be attempting to ride our Penny Farthing’s unsupported across the UK & NI from East to West. I will be hoping to raise money for the Martlets Hospice. Bob, a hugely important and influential person in so many people’s lives is currently being looked after at the Martlets inpatient unit.

This fundraiser is hugely important, the staff are always lovely at Martlets and like Bob they are extremely supportive and influential to so many. You can tell our friend Bob and others are looked after so well and Bob is delighted that I am helping to raise money to support them.

Bob is one of those characters who, when you meet him, you just love him immediately. It doesn’t matter who you are he gets on with everyone and simply has a positive impact on anyone who knows him. He’s a super dad, he is his son’s hero and you can see the love and friendship he commands from so many people.

Bob is only in his mid-forties, but at the end of 2020he discovered he has stage four cancer. He hadn’t had any symptoms, but then suddenly he started getting acid reflux a lot. He didn’t feel well so he went to the doctor and then a specialist. They diagnosed terminal cancer.

I’d like to share this video Bob made about the importance of getting health checks regularly. He wants to get the message out to people that ‘this happened to me, don’t let it happen to you’.

I have set a fundraising goal of £1,000 which I hope will go a little way to helping the Martlets which needs support after this challenging year coping with COVID. Everyone in Brighton supports Martlets in their heads, but now it’s never been more important to offer our support by setting our own challenges and/or reaching into our pockets. I know it is a difficult time and I appreciate some of us will not have money to spare, but even small amounts will help.
