Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

April 2020: one of the most unexpected and worst days of my life. Frightened, alone, emergency surgery in the middle of a pandemic. A whirlwind of physical and mental pain, fear for my life and fear for the future was my reality. I hadn’t ever even heard of an ectopic pregnancy and didn’t know anyone who had gone through it which added to the loneliness and isolation I felt during and after the ordeal. 6 months later I still wonder why me, what did I do wrong, how could this happen and the EPT have helped me through some dark days answering questions and being there for general support at a time when contact with family and friends was and is still limited.

As many as 1 in 80 women experience an ectopic pregnancy and the chances of suffering a repeat goes to 1 in 10 for women that have already had an ectopic yet it’s still something that’s never really highlighted or well known about. During lockdown many woman have had to go through the frightening experience of an ectopic pregnancy alone some of which have life changing consequences and surgery without being able to have family or friends around for support. An ectopic pregnancy occurs when the fertilised egg implants outside the cavity of the womb, usually in the fallopian tube. As the pregnancy grows, the fallopian tube stretches causing pain. If not treated quickly enough, the tube can burst, causing internal bleeding, which can lead to collapse and even death.  The experience leaves many women with post traumatic stress disorder and elevated health anxiety and the charity has been working at full steam to enable families to have adequate support which due to COVID-19 was limited by the NHS and ensuring people weren’t left feeling alone without answers.

The EPT have a 10 mile challenge running from 9th -15th October and on the 12th October along with two of my best friends we will do our 10 mile walk to raise money for this great charity! I know it’s such a strange and unsettling time for us all but if you can donate anything no matter how small to help this charity keep providing the support to people going through an Ectopic pregnancy and the aftermath of emotions I will match the total raised amount to donate to the charity!
