Virgin London Marathon 2010 · 25 April 2010 ·

We help carers of people with dementia and/or Parkinson's Disease who are looking after their loved ones in their own family home. We provide information and guidance on where to seek advice, the latest news and research, caring for someone at home, and how to get help .

Story

Hope for Home was set up in Feb 2008, which is committed to :

  • The relief of elderly persons with dementia and/or advanced Parkinson's Disease and/or similiar disabilities and the relief of carers who are caring for these people at home in the UK.

The organisation was formed in response to a perceived lack of support for families and friends who are looking after loved ones with these disabilities, as well as committing to help health and social care professionals in this specialist field.

There are many worthwhile charities which we all try to support as often as we can .  It has been well documented recenty that dementia in particular is severly underfunded, so we hope that Hope for Home can provide some much needed support to aid people in the care of their loved ones.

I am running for Hope for Home because I hugely admire our family friends who have given up their time and effort to make a success of this Charity.  The training is hugely over-rated, and I would much preferred to have run the New York Marathon and trained through the summer..!!!  Nevertheless, I will complete the course (hopefully on the same day!!) and will thoroughly enjoy the whole experience !! Philip Woolf

After finishing my first London marathon last year, I told myself that is the last time I am doing that ! Although the day was one of the most rewarding days of my life the 4 months of training prior to that were immensely tough and challenging. However the training period is nowhere near as tough and challenging as the times faced by individuals with dementia or parkinson's disease and equally their family and friends. Therefore, I had no hesitation in agreeing to run another London Marathon in support of the Hope for Home Charity. Martin Leather
