Story

*UPDATE*: After taking training fairly seriously, with 8 weeks to go to the big day, Stacey unfortunately picked up an injury to her right foot from a wayward hockey ball.  Thankfully there was no fracture, but the prescription of rest, rest and more rest has well and truly tanked her training.  She will still be taking part, however, as any chance of a decent time has gone out of the window, she's agreed to complete the course in the Beating Bowel Cancer bum shorts, but only if she and Chris reach their target of £1,000 before the event.  Talk about bang for your buck...a warm, fuzzy feeling AND a show!

Stacey Nevin, a solicitor in our family department, and her boyfriend Christopher Shone, an Engineer Officer in the Royal Air Force, will be running the Great North Run this September in aid of Beating Bowel Cancer.  Chris is aiming to finish the course in 1 hour and 40 minutes.  Stacey is aiming to finish without stopping for a picnic snack.

Not only is Beating Bowel Cancer the firm's charity of the year, Stacey and Chris have seen first hand the work that needs to be done to beat this disease.  In 2010, Chris' dad, Barry, was diagnosed with bowel cancer.  Fortunately, after the help of some fabulous medical professionals and with some scouser grit and determination, Barry pulled through and we are all keeping everything crossed that he will get his 5 years clear in September...coincidentally around the time of the half marathon.

Bowel cancer is the third most common cancer in the UK today and is the biggest cause of cancer deaths.  It can affect anyone at any age.  Beating Bowel Cancer offers practical and emotional support for those affected by bowel cancer, promotes early diagnosis and campaigns for the highest quality treatment and care for patients.  Together, we can beat bowel cancer and we would be grateful for any support you can offer, however big or small the contribution.
