Story
I will be running the Hoka Half Marathon on the 22nd February 2020 in aid of Husky Rescue Ireland.
HRI is a Husky and Akita shelter/rehoming centre that is run by a small group of volunteers. Their mission is to alleviate the suffering caused to huskies by irresponsible ownership, abuse and neglect in Ireland. They also aim to reduce the social impact of abandoned and un-neutered huskies in communities around Ireland.
Following the success of HBO’s Game of Thrones, there has been a spike in the number of huskies abandoned or surrendered due to inexperienced and irresponsible owners being unaware of how demanding the breed can be. Before the show aired in 2011, the number of abandoned huskies was around 10 a year, according to figures from Blue Cross, but in 2016 the figure hit 81. Due to this, many husky and dog rescue centres are becoming increasingly unable to cope with the volume of dogs needing their care due to not enough space, vets bills or not having enough people to care for the animals.
Any money raised will go straight to Husky Rescue Ireland in order to assist paying off their vets bills that they have accumulated due to helping unwell or mistreated huskies 🐺🐾
