Hub to Brighton Bike Ride · 2 October 2008

For 35 years Oasis has been helping to build community where everyone can thrive. We work to reduce exclusion and create opportunity for all, providing joined-up education, housing, health, justice, youth and family support.

Story

Hub Athletic Football Club is a youth-led community project that primarily aims to inspire young men from Waterloo and Kennington to enjoy and achieve, be healthy and make a positive contribution.  As part of making a positive contribution we are sending six players to India to coach at two Oasis football projects (Chennai and Bangalore). On their return they will be visiting 3 local primary schools sharing what they have learned about the Indian culture and interdependent living.

To raise funds we a holding a sponsored London to Brighton bike ride that will take place on November 16th leaving from 1a Kennington Road (Church.co.uk) and riding as a group to Brighton. This is an open event and all who take part are invited to try to raise £300 each. In the comments please note who you are sponsoring.

**As you can tell we have smashed our first target! Thanks to staff at Oasis Global we were able to find a sponsor who wanted to play for the majority of the trip. We are really excited about this but we don't want to just sit tight and wait for the trip to arrive. Due to the nature of the trip and the impact we believe it will have we decided to keep fundraising.

Our aim in continuing to raise funds is two-fold. Firstly, we would like to leave a legacy in India of really good equipment, for example football kits, bibs, balls and cones.

Secondly, we would like to make a really good film of the trip. This film will highlight the transformation in the lads that are going and hopefully inspire others on our return to support such projects. We believe it will be great for the team who are going, for the football club and for Oasis.

We are still going to give away a signed Arsenal shirt to the individual who raises the most amount of money!**

Thank you for your support. This project will have a lasting effect on the young people that are going, and on the projects in India.
