Morocco High Atlas Trek 2023 - Amnesty UK · 22 June 2023 to 29 June 2023 ·

A team of students from the Karnival RAG and the University of Nottingham are raising money for Amnesty International UK and climbing Morocco's High Atlas Mountains in 2023.

Story

I am raising money for Amnesty International UK, a human rights charity who stand up for justice and freedom across the world. Please help me by donating and sharing my page.

The charity

Amnesty International UK fight abuses of human rights worldwide. They bring torturers to justice. Change oppressive laws. And free people jailed just for voicing their opinion.

Global issues they tackle include:

-Armed conflict
89.2 million people were forcibly displaced by the end of 2021, due to conflict, violence, persecution and human rights violations.

-Child rights

An estimated 290 million children globally have not had their births registered, so they have no legal identity or proof of existence. This makes it nearly impossible for them to claim their rights throughout their lives (school, healthcare, employment, etc).

-Sexual and reproductive rights

47,000 pregnant women die every year due to complications from unsafe abortions.

-Climate change

Amnesty put pressure on governments by demanding a rapid and just transition to a zero-carbon economy that leaves no one behind.

What I'm doing

In June next year I will attempt a 6-day trek to the summit of Mount Toubkal in Morocco, the highest peak in North Africa at 4167m above sea level. I will be trekking an average of 7 hours a day covering 66km in total.

As part of my fundraising plan, in November I will run 5k-a-day, with a different person everyday.

All donors will feature on a t-shirt I will wear on the trek.
