Story

Huws Gray, one of the largest independent builders’ merchants

in the UK announces its charity partnership with the UK Sepsis Trust for 2017.

The partnership will see Huws Gray raising awareness of the serious
illness and fundraising throughout the branch network to help support
the Trust.

Huws Gray experienced the force of sepsis first hand after the sudden

loss of company director, Elfed Hughes who died May 2016 after a short
battle against the condition. Mr. Hughes was with Huws Gray for 24 years and played a major role in developing and monitoring certain
departments as well as playing a key role in the company’s growth and
management.

Terry Owen (Managing Director) commented: “Elfed’s contribution over

the 24 years he was with us was exceptional. His willingness to take
responsibility combined with passion, determination and honesty made him a very special person. He is sorely missed by all of us here at Huws
Gray.

We are delighted that we can partner up with UK Sepsis Trust to help

raise awareness of this serious illness and raise essential funds to
help the Trust improve the way sepsis is handled in the UK. As a company it’s fantastic for us to be able to do this in the memory of Elfed and we’ll be pulling together as a company to do what we can.”

Sepsis accounts for 48,000 deaths annually in the UK, that’s more than breast, bowel and prostate cancer put together. Sepsis is what happens when our immune system overreacts to an infection. Symptoms initially present as flu like but can rapidly deteriorate into a life threatening condition.
