When stroke strikes, part of your brain shuts down. And so does a part of you. Life changes instantly and recovery is tough. But the brain can adapt. Our specialist support, research and campaigning are only possible with the courage and determination of the stroke community.

Story

Almost exactly 3 years ago, I had a devastating stroke, which resulted in the total loss of feeling in my right side. My wife and I had been very keen cyclists up until then, and had planned to spend our retirement cycle-touring in various parts of Europe. With such a dramatic change to our lives, the stroke put paid to those plans, but, thanks to the efforts of the Physio team at the Stroke Rehabilitation Centre at Llandough Hospital, I started to learn to walk again, and to get cycling on an Active Passive Training bike. The community  rehabilitation support teams have also been key to recovering my independence, providing motivation, and encouragement at every step of the way.

I want to take on this challenge to say a huge ‘Thank You’ to all those who are helping me to learn to walk again and to the Stroke Association for all the brilliant work they do.
