Rachael is 26 and fit, Nicky is 58 and crawling back out of a long respiratory illness. But Rachael is persuasive, so Nicky agreed to sign up for HYROX, as long as as the pain of brutal training (and of the day!) meant raising money for Macmillan!

HYROX is absolutely nuts. Rachael has done it before, and loved it. Nicky hasn't run for years, is pathetically weak, and still can't complete a single press-up.

HYROX combines both running (what???) and functional workout stations (basically dragging heavy things around, pretending to ski on an upright machine, and 80m of mad travelling burpees). Participants run 1km, followed by a mad and challenging functional workout station, all repeated EIGHT times. Or until expiry...

Nicky's main aim is to complete it without throwing up, so as not to let either Rach or Macmillan down. Rach's main aim is to support her mother. Bless...
