Story
Thank you so much for taking the time to read about our fundraising for a fantastic charity called Feedback Madagascar.
Did you know that 20% of Malagasy children under the age of 5 die today as a result of diarrhoeal disease? Since 2008 Feedback Madagascar have provided clean water to 45,000 people to help this but there is still so much to do!
The charity saves lives, improves health and has helped to protect over 164,000 hectares of forest, fauna and flora.
By addressing primary needs, Feedback Madagascar allows people to focus on long term challenges like education and sustainable livelihoods.
In the Institute for Academic Development we are fundraising for Feedback Madagascar by setting ourselves sustainability challenges for August and September 2019. Here is what we are doing:
** I am pregnant and will commit to researching and implementing as many sustainable options as I can throughout my pregnancy and beyond, including avoiding plastic, eating vegan, getting as much as possible for the baby second-hand and teaching the baby all about sustainability as she grows. - Jennifer
** For one month I'm going to eat only fruit and veg from my organic veg box or that is grown in the UK or Ireland - Hazel C
** In August my family will go completely vegetarian - Donna
** In August and September I will pledge to make our bathroom at home as plastic free as possible (solid soap, shampoo bars, solid natural deodorant, non plastic toothbrushes etc) - Cathy
** In August and September I will buy plastic free food - Rayya
** In August I will learn 4 new low carbon vegan recipes - Velda
** In September I'm going to shop locally for fruit and veg - Donna
** In September I will use up every single thing from my new organic veg box subscription, no waste! - Velda
** By the end of September I will aim to have recycled or given to charity all baby/toddler clothes currently stored in our spare room! - IAD colleague.
** By the end of September I will have investigated and costed how to have a car recharging point at my home so that I can look to change from petrol to hybrid (or electric) car - IAD colleague
** In August and September I will check for things we are no longer using, take them to a charity shop and reflect on buying less - Donna
