Story
In May 2021 I was diagnosed with Burkitt Lymphoma. This is a rare and highly aggressive cancer which in my case caused tumours to grow in my lower back and stomach, and left me unable to move or bear weight without extreme pain. Until it was diagnosed we all believed that I was suffering from a slipped disc.
The Haematology Cancer Care (HCC) team at UCLH treated me through the Spring and Summer of 2021 with a course of chemotherapy.
In September 2021 I was given the incredible news that the treatment had been successful.
The HCC team is a group of extraordinary people whose outstanding skill and dedication are not matched by the resources they have at their disposal.
I would love to help them to raise money by taking part in their annual Bridgathon event on 11 September 2022.
Patients, former patients, friends and colleagues of the HCC team will walk along the Thames to raise funds for training, equipment and other resources needed to help people with blood cancers of various types.
I’m inviting my friends to sponsor me to walk six miles along the Thames. The money donated will be put to great use by the most committed and compassionate people I have ever encountered. I will match every pound my friends donate.
We all have very many demands on our money and attention these days, so if you prefer not to donate that is absolutely fine. It’s just great that you have read this far and know a little more about how very drastically things can change, and how important it is to persist with diagnosis when you know that something is not right.
