Story
Hi - Thank you for visiting my fundraising page. I'm hoping to help to improve the employment chances for young adults who stammer by riding 115 km (71 miles) to raise £5,000. Gulp!
Due to misunderstanding, negative bias at work and social exclusion, people who stammer are 16 times more likely to suffer from a social anxiety disorder, twice as likely to suffer from clinical depression and at least twice as likely to be unemployed.
Yet recent UK research shows that people who stammer are often above average in important qualities that employers rate highly, such as creativity, listening skills, empathy and resilience.
That's why 4 years ago, having had a stammer since the age of 7, I founded the Employers Stammering Network as a new part of the amazing British Stammering Association.
We want to transform the employment prospects for every one of the 700,000 children and adults in the UK who stammer, and I'm hoping to raise £5,000 towards a pilot mentoring programme for young adults who stammer. Helping great people like Nisar Bostan in the photo above, whom I've mentored for 2 years and who now has a job - a good job - one that suits his strengths and his exciting potential.
I can absolutely assure you that your donation will make a real difference to a young adult who stammers - helping them to get a job - the right job - and to start to fulfil their potential.
No amount is too small, or indeed to large! Just knowing that you're supporting young adults who stammer will mean a lot, especially to them.
Thank you very much!
Iain
