Story

I try each year to do at least one of those month-long fundraisers. Recently I've raised money for Cancer Research UK, Help For Heroes and Prostate Cancer UK.

This year I'm walking 62 miles in March for Campaign Against Living Miserably. For a variety of reasons close to me, this seems like the best choice right now, given their standpoint and focus. I have lost friends and acquaintances to suicide. I know suicide attempt survivors. I know suicide survivors who have lost those close to them. I know people who are plagued by suicidal thoughts. CALM aims to help as many of that last category as possible, so that the numbers in the others stay as low as they possibly can.

We’re the Campaign Against Living Miserably (CALM) and we’re taking a stand against suicide. That means standing against feeling hopeless, standing up to stereotypes and standing together to show life is always worth living. Every week 125 people in the UK take their own lives. CALM exists to change this - by offering life-saving services, provoking national conversation, and bringing people together to reject living miserably.
