My trek for Alzheimer's Society · 1 April 2022 to 31 March 2023 ·
Last year I sadly lost my Grandad to dementia. I grew up looking up to this man as my father figure.
It was Grandad who gave me my first job at 12 helping him cut lanws of the elderly, a little side business he set up after retirement from the fire service.
It was Grandad who taught me the idea of saving and looking after your money so ypu can buy the bigger things in life. I think he.meant houses but at 12 was just the new bike I REALLLY wanted).
He was always there for me and my 2 brothers. Always able to help fix or solve a problem. That's not to say he wasnt bad tempered and had a temper like a firework. But we all have our flaws and really he wouldnt have been him with out a tantrum every time a bolt ceased or screw wouldn't turn.
He was, and continues to be, loved by his Grandchildren (and great grandchildren) beyond belief and the hole left in our family will never heal.
Watching a man ilI spent my life looking up to, be reduced to a shell by an awful disease was the most unpleasant heart wrenching experience of my life. This disease is something no person should have to suffer with or family have to sit and watch as they lose a loved one to it.
So my brother and I are taking on the yorkshire three peak challenge to raise money in memory of grandad. All funds raised will go directly.to the chairty. All entry fees, travel and accommodation will be covered by our own funds.
So this ones for you grandad, I'll miss you always.
