Royal Parks Half Marathon 2021 · 10 October 2021 ·
My Dad died of cancer when he was 60 and I've never before done anything in his memory. However as I've re-discovered running recently I've remembered the half marathon we ran when I was at school and I wanted to do a run and raise some money for a charity which would have had a connection to him. My Dad was a very keen sailor who liked nothing more than taking his boat out for a days sailing mostly on the Taw - Torridge estuary in North Devon. It was a particularly sad day when he in the last few months he realised he was not strong enough to sail anymore. The Ellen MacArthur Cancer Trust though takes children who have had a cancer diagnosis and treatment and takes them on a sailing trip to help rebuild their confidence and re-establish themselves in the world. I can literally think of no better combination of concerns a charity might have that would match my Dad. I can even imagine him volunteering for a charity like that. For the run I'm going to really challenge myself and try to go for a sub 1hr 45min time, so pardon the pun this will be no walk in the park.
