Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
For all the years of raffles and donations to or for friends and their families, sponsoring nieces and nephews or the usual table top at the fair so for the first time since primary school (which trust me is a few years ago now) I have decided to take part in a sponsored walk (no I am not having a laugh I said walk please read on).
We have a wealth of agencies from Alzheimer Scotland to Marie Curie, Macmillan Nurses to the Zoological Society of Scotland (yes this does exist) they all need your help in raising awareness and funds for their causes. Some of us will know someone who have either organised or took part in events like “The Big Coffee Morning” the “Walk of Life” “The Moonwalk” or maybe a 5K or 10K jog, but none of these caught my attention or the minimum sponsorship was beyond me.
Then out of the blue I received a telephone call which pointed me in the direction of a small piece in the bottom corner in the Daily Record a couple of weeks ago, “Join us for our annual jaunt up Britain’s highest mountain all transport, accommodation, meals and guides are provided upon meeting the minimum sponsorship of £175 – Every £30 raised provides accommodation for a family of four at Yorkhill”.
This organization is Ronald McDonald House www.rmhc.org.uk they have 15 facilities in THE UK but only one are in Scotland. So I deliberated (for about a second) about this one and I thought for £30.00 Mothers, Fathers, Brothers and Sisters from Skaw to Cairngaan , Bruray to Vatersay can be at hand while there child/relation is attending “Yorkhill Children’s Hospital” no brainer result I’m in. Yes all the others need help too and I’m sure they will have thousands of volunteers but this one ticked all my boxes. What a bummer turns out I can’t do this event on the specified days of the 2-3 July 2011
But not being one to give in I have spoken with the organizers and they have no objection to me doing this on another day so on behalf of Ronald McDonald House at Yorkhill Children’s Hospital it’s so on again. Obviously cost are now my concern and rightly so I’m going to honor the minimum sponsorship of £175 for starters and hope that the thought of an overweight 50 year who is used to his home comforts trudging up 1344 meters / 4,409 feet up Ben Nevis (Britain’s Highest Mountain) in the wind and rain will appeal to your sense of humor and that will reflect in your sponsorship.
