Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
It has been a long standing ambition of mine to run a
marathon. After a number of unsuccessful attempts to enter the London Marathon via the ballot, I decided to take up the opportunity of a guaranteed place in this year’s Edinburgh Marathon, the culmination of the Edinburgh Marathon Festival (EMF).
My last half marathon was more than 20 years ago so I will be taking the 16 week training programme very seriously.
The most important reason for running, however, is to raise money for the Utange Orphans Charity in Kenya. - www.utangeorphans.org -
Tina and I have been supporting this charity for a number of
years and were inspired by the founder, Debbie Scott, during a fund raising event at a local English Heritage site.
The mission statement for the charity is, “Providing a loving and nurturing environment for disadvantaged children through Christian values and education.”
The current major project that I am aiming to help raise funds towards is to build a high school so that the children’s education can be
extended beyond primary level giving them a real chance of escaping poverty and building a sustainably independent future.
