Shaftesbury is the charity that's committed to enabling people with disabilities to live the life they want to lead. We work helping people to tackle the barriers they face and create a livable life. We believe that the people we support have the right to a full and flourishing life.

Story

I suffered a Traumatic Brain Injury in November 2015 when I fell from a ladder. After 10 months in hospital, I came home and was referred to Livability Icanho for further rehabilitation. More than anything else, I wanted to learn to walk again. The team at Icanho are wonderful and supported and helped me all the way - and still do. I can now walk limited distances with a stick. I use a therapy bike with arm and leg training facility at home to keep fit. I also sometimes go to a specialist hydrotherapy pool. Both these activities help me a lot, but as a kid I couldn't ride a bike and was afraid of water! Now, these are the activities that are making a lot of difference to my rehab! Physio at Icanho is a key part of my therapy and I use the new Bioness vector there to help me with my confidence in walking. I want to raise money for Icanho to give something back for everything they do for me and others when they suffer a lifechanging event. "You can't choose what happens to you, but you can choose how you respond".
