Story
This Friday 21st January at 8pm Glen Andrew and I will be setting out to walk 60km through the night from Dublin Castle to Glenmalure in the Wicklow mountains.
The Art O'Neill Challenge is a unique event in the Irish outdoor scene, organised by, and solely for the benefit of Dublin & Wicklow Mountain Rescue Team (DWMRT). Its 60km route retraces a historic escape from Dublin Castle that happened on January 6th, 1592. That night, Art O'Neill, his brother Henry, and Red Hugh O'Donnell broke out of the Castle and made for Glenmalure, to safety.
This will be quite the adventure for all 200 participants, and we would welcome and appreciate any sponsorship you may consider giving to the Dublin & Wicklow Mountain Rescue Team (DWMRT) in support of their work. All sponsorship goes directly to them.
The event is run and staffed by members of DWMRT, with the help of volunteers very generously donating their time. Safety and rescue cover is provided by mountain rescue team members. The Art O'Neill Challenge provides much-needed funds to keep DWMRT operational, allowing the team's volunteers to maintain its 24/7 emergency response to those in need.
