Dreamflight is a UK charity that changes young lives through taking children with a serious illness or disability, without their parents, on the holiday of a lifetime to Orlando, Florida.

Established in 1987 and operating annually since, Dreamflight believes that fun and joy are just as important as medical research and equipment - especially for children who perhaps can't wait long enough for the breakthrough they need or whose illnesses and treatments have brought pain, distress and disruption to their lives.

In 2010, my son Euan was nominated and then lucky enough to get a place on the 2011 Dreamflight trip to Orlando. He was born with CDH (Congenital Dislocation of the Hip) and in his case, had no hip joint at all requiring one to be built up from scratch at the age of 18 months, using bone grafts from his pelvis. For the next 12 / 13 years, repeated surgery and a significant amount of physiotherapy were a very regular part of his life, even needing to be taught the most obvious of actions - walking properly, running - because he missed out on these being natural progressions as he grew. He never complained, never argued although we did shed a few tears over that time. Our support team felt that having endured that amount of time in difficulty and discomfort throughout his young years then he was to be nominated for a trip.

Dreamflight don't get allocated lucrative London Marathon places and they rarely get other sporting event places that help raise essential funds to be able to pay for these lifetime trips for youngsters.
