Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page for the Moel Siabod Sportif 2020 (MSS2020).

In 2015 I was so shocked by the devastation caused by the Earthquake that struck Nepal. I had been lucky enough to visit the country twice, and it touched something in me. The people with so little offered so much, the scenery was beautiful, and the life so hard. I saw what the lovely people (Paul, Marion and John) at the Moel Siabod Cafe were doing, and attended a couple of their events. It was then I realised that I could/should do something. Paul Hodges was an inspiration with his unbelievable efforts of running up and down the Moel Siabod mountain - so I decided to ride a 100 miles in Snowdonia - on the cafe's fundraising day, and to raise money towards the Cafe's Community Aid Nepal charity, the patron of which is the mountaineer Doug Scott - who regularly speaks at the cafe.

It's a modest and very 'boutique' event. In the first year there were three of us, in the second year there were six, then eight and then last year there were 10. This year it looks like we will have 20+ riders on the MSS2020 - which is amazing!

The event has it's own quirky personality. There is a very special camaraderie on the ride and between the riders and the wonderful support crews (my family and close friends). 100 miles in Snowdonia is as tough as it sounds. We take on some of the best climbs, enjoy sweeping descents and usually four seasons of weather in one day.

The support I have received, both to my own Just Giving page, and from the other riders supporting by promoting this page, has been simply unbelievable. In total we have raised over £6,500, and I would dearly love to see us get past the £10,000 mark in the next couple of years.

The MSS2020 is only a few weeks away, and we have been touch and go in terms of weather to run it at all this year, due to the COVID pandemic.

I hope that you will recognise this as a worthy cause, and that by supporting us your money will go towards projects and communities that will benefit from every penny that you pledge. You can find out more by searching for "The Moel Siabod Sportif" on FaceBook, where we will be making updates and posting pictures from the day.
