Story

Like many of my teammates at Old Bedians, I recently found out an ex-teammatePete Kerr, had a life changing cancer diagnosis. His most recent club, Bradford on Avon RFC, are fundraising to help the Lewis Moody Foundation and young people who need support with brain tumours. The challenge is to cover as many kilometres for Kerr as possible in April 2021.

Unlike some of the younger guys doing this, my knees are shot so I’m pledging to go 5km on a rower or cross trainer every day for 30 days starting April 12 and I’ll clock up the distance that way. There are more impressive athletes in this event but I just want to do my bit!

The response to this cause has been amazing and I’m always humbled by the solidarity shown by the rugby community and beyond when life gets tough. If you haven’t donated already, any gesture would be appreciated. Thank you!

Here’s the original post from Bradford-on-Avon rugby:

Recently one of our teammates Pete Kerr, had a life changing cancer diagnosis. Pete has played at least 8 seasons of rugby at Bradford and been a great team mate and friend. We want to do our bit to help fund a great charity that has already been on hand to help Pete. Players past and present have pledged to run a distance through April to raise money for the Lewis Moody Foundation which supports people with brain tumours and their families. By getting our trainers on as a team, we will show Pete and Helen, we are all by their side. Since we have started the target has shifted quite substantially from £700 - £5,000 and now we have a big hairy audacious goal of £10,000. The only way we have been able to achieve this is down to the support of a wider rugby family including Didsbury Old Bedians, Just Eat and the Keynsham U13s FC.We have fittingly chosen to sponsor the Lewis Moody Foundation who support young people with Brain Tumours. You can find out more here https://www.thelewismoodyfoundation.org/about-us/ Please follow our progress towards our goal of 3000km in April or set your own pledge via https://www.strava.com/clubs/boarugbyOn the last Saturday of April 24th at 10 am there will be the option to do a ‘fun run’ from the club through the lanes. Please give generously to support a great cause, and show our appreciation for one of rugby's great guys.
