We support children to talk and understand words

Story

Over 1.4 million children across the UK start school with a communication difficulty and are likely to struggle with talking, understanding, learning and making friends.

Those that know me, know that I have my own princess in the form of Kya-Onawa. Unfortunately in her short life things have not always been plain sailing, Kya-Onawa is a strong but shy little girl who is always smiling and most of the time sucking her thumb. Recently she has been diagnosed with a severe speech disorder and hence the link to ICAN.

I am an established runner, but in order to set myself a new challenge that I am hoping people can support, I have decided to attempt to run at least the distance of a half marathon (13.1 miles) for each day of Lent, from Ash Wednesday to Easter Sunday, if achieved this will be a minimum of 47 Half Marathons, a distance of 615+ miles, in just 47 days!

I CAN is a UK charity supporting children so that they have the communication skills they need. Its mission is that no child should be left out or left behind because of a difficulty speaking or understanding. You can support that mission today!

About the charity

At least 1.9 million children in the UK are struggling to talk and understand words.  We give children and young people the skills they need so they aren't left behind. We do this by creating tools for schools and nurseries, giving advice and guidance to families and putting pressure on politicians.
