Story
Over the course of 2016, ICM will be undertaking a number of global challenges to raise money for the charity Teach A Man To Fish and in particular the iThemba LamaMpumuza Community Centre Project (http://ithembaprojects.org.za).
Mpumuza is an impoverished, semi rural community 5km outside the town of Hilton, near Pietermaritzburg in Kwa-Zulu Natal in South Africa who are in need of funding to help them build a community centre. The centre will provide the community with a central space to house iThemba's activities that will connect young people with supporting role models for young children as research has shown that the first 1,000 days of a child's life are the most critical for brain development.
In October, 18 members of the UK & Ireland ICM team are set to don their hiking boots and waterproofs and hike across the Isle of Wight, a total of 26.5 miles, in one day, to raise funds for iThemba.
Our Hong Kong staff member is hiking the twin peaks of Lantau Island which consist of Lantau Peak at 934m and Sunset Peak at 898m, whilst our Brazilian colleague is planning to run his first ever half marathon by participating in the Sao Paulo Half Marathon on the 9th October.
The Cape Town office will instead be volunteering their services to a local charity whilst the Singapore office will be volunteering to help out at a local soup kitchen called Willing Hearts.
