For children the Christmas holiday season can be a wonderful time of year, filled with magical moments creating memories that will last a whole lifetime.

For their parents, the coming days of December will provide some of their happiest times with their children.

But for many parents, whose lives have been touched by a child with a life limiting condition, this Christmas will be a time of great sadness.

 

·       there are 15 million children and babies worldwide who will be in urgent need of palliative care this Christmas

 

·       many of these children are living with extreme pain and other hugely distressing symptoms – they will be frightened, sad and lonely

Across the world there is a shortage care professionals who are properly trained to meet the needs of these children - 65% of countries have no children's palliative care services at all.

In 2014, we plan to provide online training to 200 more health care professionals across the world, so that many more children can look forward to a future, which however short, is free from pain and suffering.

 £10 will help us to translate one of our training programmes into another language

£20 will enable a community nurse to study our Introduction to Children's Palliative care module

£50 will enable a clinician to study both our Pain Assessment and persistent Pain management modules

£100 will contribute to the cost of developing a new module in End of Life Care for children
