Nathaniel’s Story....
Nathaniel was born prematurely in December 2020 at 33+4 weeks with a fetal diagnosis of Tetralogy Of Fallot, a Congenital Heart Defect. After spending 12 days on the Birmingham Womans NICU we were overjoyed to be able to bring Nathaniel home where we would wait until his surgery was required.
Little did we know his journey was just beginning. Nathaniel spent 5 weeks at home before he was admitted onto the Birmingham Children’s Cardiac Ward with breathing difficulties. In addition to his heart condition he was diagnosed with Laryngomalacia and has now spent almost his whole life in hospital.
For us as a family the last few months have been challenging. Although Nathaniel is improving and we hope to have him home in the not so distant future, we know we will be here once more for his open heart surgery.
The acts of kindness, love and support we have received has been overwhelming but what has been most amazing is the strength Nathaniel has shown. He has proven to be one amazing, happy little boy who will fight his hardest at what ever is thrown at him.
So in his honor, my siblings and I will be running the Birmingham half marathon on the 10th October 2021, and in America my older sister and 9 year old nephew will be running a half marathon in aid of ‘Young at Heart’ a charity based at Birmingham Children’s Hospital who help provide life saving equipment for the hospital and support families like us with children or babies with congenital heart defects ♥️
