So I can’t take Type 1 diabetes away from my mum and being fairly new into running (over the last year or so) I thought what better way to raise awareness and to push myself mentally and physically at the same time.
I am mainly running this for my mum who, as you know, has Type 1 diabetes. She has lived with this condition since she was 4 years old. Growing up, I remember how hard it was for her; all the blood tests, hypos, hypers and injections -which has oddly made me grow up with a love for the smell of insulin! Having T1D really does effect everything you do, making day-to-day life a struggle. This being said, she has always shown pure determination and done what she has had her heart and mind set on, defying medical science. She has always fought for Diabetes and in raising awareness so it’s about time someone took over and fought for her!
To me, Diabetes is very much under the medical radar and we need to learn about it, understand it, talk about it more and all help in trying to make the lives of diabetics (young and old) easier. If you don’t know what Diabetes is or the difference between Type 1 and Type 2 then please visit the links below, even if that’s all you do on my page today, I will be very grateful. .
