Welcome to the donation page for the Christening of our lovely little daughter Imogen Rose!
Imogen will be just over 9 months old at the time of her christening and, for us, this has proven to be a challenging yet incredibly rewarding time. When Imogen was born we were surprised to find that she had Down's syndrome and we took some time to come to terms with the diagnosis. Support from family and friends was really important and very much appreciated.
We’ve learnt a great deal about the condition since then. We’ve learnt that the only difference is that people with Down's Syndrome have an extra copy of chromosome 21, that Down’s Syndrome is the most common cause of learning disability in the UK and that anyone can give birth to a child with Down’s Syndrome - as it occurs equally amongst all ages, races, countries and socio-economic groups. There is no known reason why Down's Syndrome occurs. We’ve also learnt that people with Down's Syndrome are all very different from each other, in looks, personalities and ability and that it has only been in the last twenty years that people with Down's syndrome have been able and encouraged to realise their full potential - many adults with Down Syndrome are capable of leading independent and fulfilling lives.
Imogen was in an NICU for one month after she was born as she was being monitored for a congenital heart defect, something common in babies with Down's syndrome, so we were very nervous and excited when we could finally bring her home. Our lovely daughter Imogen Rose has already given us lots of joy and happiness. We are so proud of every milestone she reaches - she is 8 months old now and she enjoys sitting, rolling around on the floor, splashing in the bath, playing with her toys and pulling her mummy's hair. Imogen is full of lovely smiles and she also likes lots of cuddles and attention. We are optimistic for Imogen’s future and plan to support her in achieving a fulfilling life.
The Down’s Syndrome Association has provided us with lots of useful information up to now so we thought they would be an appropriate charity to donate to on behalf of Imogen.
Thanks
Michelle, Kieran and Imogen.
