Guts UK is the charity for the digestive system. Our guts have been underfunded, understaffed & undervalued for decades. Guts UK’s work leads to earlier diagnoses, kinder treatments & ultimately, a cure, through funding research, raising awareness, and providing information.

Story

Thank you for taking your time to visit my JustGiving page! Here is my story…

My beautiful mum was suddenly diagnosed with terminal Stage 4 Stomach Cancer in mid-January 2020. Although she was initially given a prognosis of 6-12 months, the sheer aggression of the cancer was utterly horrific and after putting up such a brave fight, mum peacefully passed away in mid-April just three months later.

For me personally, this year has been almost unbearable, however I am fortunate enough to have some amazing people around me. I believe this is something that mum instilled in me as she would always strive to surround herself with the most caring and loving people.

The overwhelming support I have received has been unbelievable, and none more so than when some of my closest friends arrived at my door (socially distancing of course) to surprise me with a plan to take part in the National Three Peaks Challenge (on August 29th, 2020) together in memory of mum. They also gave me a personalised Stoke City kit (our family team), with mum’s name on the back and my lucky number, I will wear this at the top of each peak to celebrate mum’s life which was full of wild adventures and escapades similar to this.

It is impossible to explain the hurt, pain and confusion that grief can cause, but it is just as hard to put into words what support and friendship such as this can mean for someone when they are at their lowest point.

We are supporting Guts UK*; the charity mum chose before she passed, they will receive all donations. In case you have not heard of it before, stomach cancer is the 5th most common type of cancer, and it is the 2nd most common cause of cancer deaths globally. Despite this, it is notoriously underfunded compared to research into other cancers**.

Mum will always be remembered by those who knew her as one of the strongest, most caring people in the world, she meant so much to so many and her memory will forever live on in all of us.

Please feel free to donate, share or like this page and thanks again for your time and support! Ethan x
