Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.

Toni, her Best of Suffolk colleagues and family members are taking part in the Inflatable 5k in Norwich on Saturday 20th October to raise money and awareness for Great Ormond Street Children’s Hospital and the fantastic work they do!

On 27th July 2017, Toni's sister gave birth to boy/girl twins, Chester and Quinn. Unfortunately, doctors quickly discovered Chester had Sagittal craniosynostosis, this affects the skull and occurs when the sagittal suture fuses before birth.

Chester was referred for surgery to help rectify the condition. The first operation was carried out on Sunday 3rd December, Chester was just four months old. Great Ormond Street performed an operation called a ‘Spring-assisted cranioplasty’, the surgeon cut through the fused sagittal suture and removed a portion before inserting two springs into his skull to rectify the shape of the skull.

Chesters parents were organised accommodation nearby so that they were close by, all funded by Great Ormond Street. After the first operation, the changes to the shape of Chester’s skull were instantly noticeable.

On Wednesday 18th April, Great Ormond Street performed the second operation on Chester, removing the springs that were inserted. Once again, overnight accommodation was provided by Great Ormond Street.

The care Great Ormond Street have given, to both Chester and his family, during this tough time has been outstanding. Chester has received excellent care, which will continue as he grows up to ensure he remains healthy.
