The story behind the skydive!
Why on earth would anyone willingly sign up to jump out of a plane?!
Well, it's fair to say life has been rough recently. The pandemic we are experiencing is having a huge impact on many people's mental health - we feel useless, helpless, defeated sometimes. But actually, we're not. We are the ones in control of our lives, our attitude, our fears.
I am turning 30 this year, something that is quite honestly scaring the hell out of me. It sounds stupid, but I feel I've accomplished very little. Not true, I'm sure, but signing up to do a Skydive - and raise money for the most incredible charity - just felt like something I needed to do.
Finally, and most importantly, I am doing this for my Dad (Roy Cherry). Losing him to the hideous disease that is Cancer was the hardest thing I had the unfortune of having to face. In his final days, Myton Hospice were invaluable. They honoured his wish to die in his own home, despite needing care. They were so unbelievably kind and patient. Because of them, my sister and I were relieved one night and were able to get an hour or two of much needed sleep. The lady who spent a lot of time with him came when she heard he had passed and cried at his side. She showed such love after only knowing him for a matter of days. I decided in my Dad's final days that this was something I was going to do - I was going to jump from a plane for Myton.
I feel I need to add, I HATE heights. Petrified of them. But I would happily jump out of a plane 1000x if it meant being able to give my Dad a cuddle one more time. I would also happily jump from a plane to know I am providing money to a truly wonderful charity, to enable them to provide the outstanding end of life care to another's family member.
To end, jumping out of a plane seems scary, but it is in no way the scariest/hardest thing life can throw at us.
