Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.
In late 2016 we lost our colleague Ruth Chandler. Ruth led service user and carer involvement in Sussex Partnership's Research and Development Department and was a renowned and respected champion for service user and carer involvement throughout the Trust and beyond.
Following her death, we were flooded with stories and memories of Ruth and a shared commitment to remember Ruth and her amazing work at Mill View Hospital where she was based. Having discussed this with her family, we decided that a memorial bench at Mill View would be a fitting tribute and a place for family and those she worked with to sit and remember.
We are fundraising for a bench and plaque.
There were too many messages to mention, but this one from Claire sums up how we all feel:
"Talking about Ruth using past tense seems so wrong, not only because of the horrible shock that she’s not physically with us anymore but also because she is, and I hope always will be, such a huge part of the work the department does. Ruth taught me and I’m sure so many others such a huge amount. She was so generous with her time and so passionate about making sure the voices of people who are too often not heard were placed at the heart of what we do. I think all of us who worked with her are better for the experience. To say I’ll miss her is an understatement, but what I mean is I’ll miss spending time with her because I will do my best to always honour her memory in my research and to never forget her voice, and her wonderful laugh."
