Story

Hello :)

I’m running the London Landmarks Half Marathon on 2nd April next year to raise money for Young Minds in memory of my friend Tobi.

Me and Tobs met at nursery when we were 3 years old. We were terror toddlers who squeezed soap all over the nursery toilet floors and had an inability to stop talking. She was an adventure waiting to happen every single day which made her the most fun friend to have. She also had an incredible talent for making every story funny, it was impossible not to laugh at her witty delivery of her latest life story or mishap. Me and my family still laugh about the hilarious anecdotes she used to tell us when she came round for dinner. But on top of all the fun, she also had a very big heart and made people feel so loved. To give you a picture of her, when I was going through a rough patch she used to make me cards to celebrate when I’d reached a milestone with no ‘hiccups’. It was the kindest thing anyone could’ve done and the cards remain one of the most special things I have. I miss her hugely.

After struggling with her mental health for a while, Tobi died by suicide at the end of 2020. Losing her was heartbreaking beyond words. I’m fundraising for Young Minds because this charity is doing all that they can to work towards a world where no young person ever misses out on the mental health support that they need. Their mission is to ensure that some day “no young person feels alone with their mental health”. I hope that one day no families will have to go through the loss that Tobi’s family have, they are in my thoughts always. Any donation however big or small would mean so much to me.

Ironically she would’ve found the idea of me running even a kilometre absolutely hilarious so this is for you tobs, I hope you’re laughing. I love you.
