The Tandem Tart Challenge
The TTC was born in March 2016. Before being diagnosed with M.E. back in 2013, I had competed in all distances on the back of a tandem, including two 24 hour time trials. So what better way to have a bit of fun and raise funds for vital research into this devasting condition than to ride the tandem with a different Partner for each race.
2019. A new season is well underway and some of the exciting plans we had in the pipeline have been achieved. Firstly, I celebrated my 50th Partner with none other than former World and Paralympic Cycling Champion, Darren Kenny OBE. Then on 18th and 19th May, my cycling Club Sotonia CC hosted the Tandem Tart Challenge Weekend. A weekend of fun for tandems and solo riders which started with a time trial on Saturday afternoon followed by an evening do. Then to finish off the weekend, we held a reliability ride covering three distances across the beautiful New Forest. All profits from this weekend have been donated to The Ramsay Research Fund. In September I may be riding with a cycling celebrity and in October, plans are in the pipeline for a tandem relay event for which I will need some willing volunteers. More on that to follow.
My fundraising campaign has been up and running for just over three years now and what fun, laughs and scary moments we have had. With the £9,000 mark reached and passed at the end of last year, we are less that £3000 from my target thanks to your generosity. All your donations are being used for research purposes only.
I achieved many things last year but my ultimate goal is to ride a 12 hour time trial on the tandem again. That is my ultimate goal. A pretty big task for some people but as a seasoned endurance cyclist, a challenge that I have met on many occasions in the past.
The difference now is that I am living with ME.
Please help me to raise £12,000 for the ME Associations Ramsay Research Fund so that one day we will find a cure. Thank you.
