Like many organizations, the South Carolina Aquarium has experienced difficulty sustaining its current operations. COVID-19 has limited the number of guests resulting in a decrease in income. The money raised will support the educational programming and sea turtle rehabilitation housed within the Aquarium.
A Beach Cleanup event will be introduced to the Charleston area through a partnership between MUSC College of Health professions students and the South Carolina Aquarium. This project is set to focus on clearing litter from one of Charleston’s main beaches, Isle of Palms, in order to keep the ocean clear of potentially harmful substances. This project aims to not only benefit the ocean but to benefit the Aquarium through ways of fundraising after a loss of revenue due to COVID-19. The fundraising will involve the opportunity to sponsor the event, prior to March 27th, in form of a monetary donation or by way of purchasing a shirt on the day of the event.

As MUSC MHA students, we were given the assignment to develop and strategically plan a project for a nonprofit organization. We picked the South Carolina Aquarium as it is the heart and soul of this great city. We wish to give back to the aquarium in a generous way and hope you & your family will join us at our 1st Annual Isle of Palms Beach Sweep on March 27th from 1pm-4pm.
