IPRS Group 2021 Charity of the year · 31 December 2021

CAH Support group provides information on CAH, support to those managing the medical condition and help fund research into improvements in the care and management of the condition.

Story

As our 2021 charity of the year, we are delighted to be supporting Living with CAH as well as our colleague Jodie Bates. For us to understand why this was chosen as a charity, here is a little about Jodie’s and Oliver’s story.

At 10 days old Oliver was in adrenal crisis and with the great support of Ipswich hospital consultants, nurses, student nurses, healthcare assistants and nursery nurses Oliver pulled through a very difficult time. CAH affects approximately 1 in 15000 of us, it’s a condition where the adrenal glands do not produce enough cortisol. Cortisol helps you deal with physical and emotional stress and therefore if anyone with CAH gets a cold, flu, or sickness bug this can become life threatening. It also usually requires continued medication throughout the individual’s life.

Symptoms are common to display in newborns at 10 days. Lucky for Jodie, she had an incredible health visitor who said to go to paediatrics and thanks to such a prompt referral, saved Oliver’s life.

We are going to help Jodie and her family along with what is a small charity to help support the ongoing research for CAH by raising money which goes towards projects in cortisol replacement therapy.

Thank you for all the support and donations that will be forthcoming throughout 2021
