St Elizabeth Hospice Midnight Walk 2020 · 9 May 2020 ·

St Elizabeth Hospice improves life for people with a progressive illness. Our work centres around individual needs, with specialist support, wherever required, at home, in the community or at the hospice. Each year the hospice needs to generate £12.9m, of this 70% comes from the local community.

Second Update, from Janet:

I too will be walking 10k on Wednesday evening 10th June along with Louise & Loes.  I will also, with Louise, be joining the official hospice midnight walk in September.

Annual running costs for St Elizabeth Hospice are roughly £10.5 million.  A government grant of £2 million leaves a massive £8.5 million to raise, every single year.

This year’s pandemic has ensured that most of their large fundraising events have been postponed and in many cases cancelled; their charity shops have been closed for months.  There is a huge gap in their finances.

They do an amazing job, so please help us to raise as much as we possibly can.  You never know, one day it may be you, me or one of our loved ones in need of their services

UPDATED STORY:

Due to the coronavirus, this event has been moved to September......which means that Major Loes cannot take part in the official event. HOWEVER, Major Loes is determined to complete it. So, we are going to do an unofficial walk on Wednesday 10th June. Currently it will be Major Loes and Louise, unless the restrictions are lifted to allow more than two households to exercise together, and then Janet will join in if the guidelines allow it. We will be walking early evening, not midnight for obvious safety reasons. We will also be walking an unofficial 10k route, incorporating the hospice, and other corps members homes.

Janet and Louise will then take part in the official walk in September (coronavirus permitting).

Original Story:

We have decided to challenge ourselves to take part in this walk for various reasons (between us).

Janet has done this walk a number of times before and is therefore the expert ;-)

I (Louise) have run marathons before ;-) so thought this would be a walk in the park - lol

Major Loes likes walking and wanted a challenge (as if being the officer of Ipswich Citadel wasn't a challenge - lol)

I think everyone knows someone that has been/is being affected by cancer, and the work that hospices up and down the country do is amazing. We are supporting our local hospice, with the knowledge that other hospices are equally as supportive.
