Martlets Friday Night Ride to the Coast · 3 September 2010 ·

Compassionate care for the community. Southern Hospice Group is the charity for the three hospices our local communities know, love and support. Chestnut Tree House children's hospice near Arundel, Martlets in Hove and St Barnabas House in Worthing.

Story

Late one night a crack team of finely honed commercial analysts were propping up the bar, and bemoaning the fact that there were no real challenges left in today's world.

Plans, budgets, strategies, FMs, models, they'd done the lot!

'What we need is a real challenge' one said

'Like what?' another languidly replied, whilst casually pondering whether his next pint really would be value accretive.

'Like physical exercise! And we could raise money for charity at the same time'

A short pause followed as the team pulled itself together - they hadn't been this disturbed since the last Microsoft Excel upgrade. Physical exercise indeed

'For example we could go for a bike ride or something.'  he continued. ' There's one to Brighton in September - it's only 50something miles'

Objections rained in;

'Me in lyrca - can you imagine? - People will die laughing when they see us!'

'It's quarter end - I can't afford to take a day out of the office'

The original speaker waited to let the noise die down and then in a tone that brooked no argument declared.

'In that case we'll go at night!'

And so the challenge was born.

Please help us raise money for Martlets Hospice as we cycle from London to Brighton in the early hours of Sat 4th September.
