Irene passed away peacefully at the Royal London Hospital on the 10 November 2018, surrounded by her family. She was a strong Christian, and was content.

Mother to Christine, Derek and Stephen. She had 11 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. She was married to Eddy Stride.

Irene touched many peoples' lives sharing God’s love with her grace, generosity and gentleness. She had a heart for people less fortunate than herself and spent her life serving people, including nearly 20 years at Christ Church in Spitalfields, which, at that time was a place of extreme poverty. At her kitchen table you could have found a businessman, or politician, waiting to see our father about a current issue, sitting opposite a derelict prostitute, having a cup of tea while waiting for mum to find her some clean clothes.

She retired with Eddy to Stamford, in Lincolnshire, who predeceased her in 2005.

She loved the countryside, and we spent many hours walking, bird and flower watching and looking at nature.

Her great love of classical music gave her much joy and enhanced her life.
