Tough Mudder North London 2021 · 27 August 2021 to 28 August 2021 ·
We sadly lost our beautiful daughter Isabella Rosa on the 11th August last year . At 21 weeks we were told the news that no expectant parent should ever have to hear, which is that there was no heartbeat. We had had our 20-week scan only a few days earlier, and like most parents at that stage, we were finally thinking that we were ‘safe’.
We have never known pain like it: the life you had imagined suddenly finished before it had even really begun; having to go through labour and deliver a baby you know you won’t be able to take home; and then dealing with the feelings of emptiness and loss, with a void that can never be filled.
We are now nearly a year on following our loss, and it has truly been the longest year, luckily for us we have had the most amazing support network , friends and family have literally dragged us through these past months. All we have of Bella are our memories which 4louis helped us to make, and the keepsakes in our memory box. I can’t tell you how precious these are when we have felt overwhelmed by the loss.
Our crazy friends, family and midwives at lister hospital have against their better judgement signed up to run tough mudder in august! For most this has meant some serious lifestyle changes and exercise to prepare for this event, which is definitely not for the faint hearted !
Tough mudder is a series of obstacles and mud runs designed to push both physical and mental limits , based on teamwork to overcome obstacles, which I believe involve a lot of mud, climbing, mild electrocution and other horrors. They will definitely be earning any donations we receive!
Miscarriage or the death of a baby or child is not a rare occurrence. Every day in the UK around 15 babies die before, during or soon after birth. 1 in 4 pregnancies sadly end before the reach 12 weeks.
4Louis is a UK charity that works across the country to support anyone affected by miscarriage, stillbirth and the death of a baby or child. They also work to improve the care bereaved families receive from health care and other professionals.
4Louis was founded by Louis’ family in 2009 who found that there was very little access to support and memory making following his stillbirth at 38 weeks gestation.
It’s heartbreaking to imagine that a lack of recourses available reduce the precious memories and keepsakes captured in the short time the family spend with their baby or child. Having no dedicated bereavement rooms on hospital wards which means mums and dads have to spend precious time with their baby or child in a normal hospital room surrounded by unsuitable adverts on the walls, sounds of a busy ward and being able to hear babies/ children around them.
Gaps in training for health professionals due to funding means families are not receiving acceptable care during such a traumatic time and this is something 4louis are happy to fund.
We provide staff the tools and equipment to provide excellent care to these bereaved families by prompting them to offer the opportunity to capture precious memories, take special photos and giving the families extra time to spend with their baby or child in a safe comfortable environment.
We have funded many study days for trusts across the UK and even funded for individual health care professionals to attend conferences, study days and courses to help improve their knowledge and approach to these families.
