Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page!
It has been a goal of mine to run the London Marathon since I can remember, so when I got my ballot place this year I knew that I wanted to use my place to raise awareness and money for a charity important to me. I chose Alzheimer's Research UK as my family and I have been personally affected by Alzheimer's and I know that Alzheimer's Research UK is dedicated to funding extremely important and useful research as well as raising awareness about dementia.
As a physiotherapy student doing placements and gaining experience on the wards and in the community; I have met many dementia patients: with 1/4 of hospital beds being occupied by dementia patients who are over 65. I have seen first hand both in my personal life and through my work how dementia affects not just the patient but their family, friends and the community around them; and so I know how important it is to support research into a treatment for the causes of dementia.
Globally, the number of people living with dementia will increase from 50m in 2018 to 152m in 2050 (this is a 204% increase!). The cost is also expected to almost double from £25bn in 2021 to £47bn in 2050. It is estimated that the cost of developing a new drug for Alzheimer's treatment is £1.15bn!
I hope to raise as much as I can with your support! Any amount big or small will help and be really appreciated! You will be helping to make a difference in the lives of those affected by dementia.
