On my trip to Haiti last April, we identified, Fannie, a baby who needed complex colorectal surgery. The local surgeons could not help her and we did not carry the proper specialized equipment to address it.  We worked the better part of 6 months to send another team to address her condition along with dozens of other waiting children.

Sadly, she passed away before the team arrived. I am running this 5k because I want to support Dr. Shin and her on-going efforts to train local pediatric surgeons and help elevate the standards of surgical care so that no other children die waiting for someone to help give them a chance at a healthy life.
