Story

Isabelle Carys Mitchell was born on 1st April 2020 at St George’s Hospital, London. Isabelle was a very strong, determined and resilient baby who made the impossible possible. She touched so many hearts in her short life in this world and made us incredibly proud.

Isabelle was diagnosed with having a CPAM  at 21 weeks gestation. She was monitored closely by the fetal medicine team and plans were being put in place for her to have the large cysts removed once she was born.

Isabelle was far more poorly at birth than anybody could have anticipated and therefore at 3 hours old, was taken to theatre to have major surgery to remove the cyst on her lung. Over the course of the days, Isabelle gave her best fight to recover from the surgery. Unfortunately she picked up sepsis which added to her battle but she overcame it and she was starting to show occasional signs of getting better. However, on the 25th of April 2020, Isabelle deteriorated rapidly due to a second infection and an unknown condition and on Monday 27th April 2020, Isabelle Carys Mitchell gained her wings cuddled in our arms.

Since she passed away, Isabelle was found to have had a very rare condition which surprised doctors that she even survived the pregnancy, let alone the birth, surgery and 27 days in this world.

Isabelle’s medical team at St George’s were incredible. It was due to them that we were able to spend 27 wonderful days with our baby girl. They fought through every fight she faced with her, had the most incredible knowledge and tried every avenue of cure in hope for a more positive outcome for Isabelle.

Isabelle has touched so many hearts in her short time in this world. She showed us how to make the impossible possible, how to love unconditionally and how ‘the smallest things take up the most room in your heart.’ She will be greatly missed.

The funeral service is due to take place on the 20th May 2020. Due to the current pandemic, only close family are able to attend.

If you would like to make a donation in Isabelle's memory, we have chosen for donations to go to the charity First Touch who support babies at St George’s hospital and supported Isabelle in so many ways during her stay on the neonatal unit. ‘First Touch is an official charity that funds state-of-the-art equipment and specialist staff training which are outside of the scope of NHS budgets as well as a range of initiatives to support families during their stay on the unit.’
