My grandfather was a Major in Gurkha Rifles and served with them around the world. His life was saved by one of his soldiers when he was shot during battle. The soldier ran into live fire, picked him up (he was 6ft3) and ran back to cover. He would have bled out had he been left.

In his later life, The Gurkha Welfare Trust helped secure funding to allow my grandfather to live his final years at home.

The Gurkha Welfare Trust ensures that Gurkha veterans, their widows and their wider communities are able to live with dignity in Nepal, through the provision of financial, medical and community aid.
