Story
I'm taking part in the Johnson and Johnson Vision Run, during the European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons' Congress in Vienna. It's 5k, which hopefully won't be too taxing (although I am going to try and do it in under 24 minutes, which might break me). The added difficulty is that we have to meet for the run at 5:40am. The location is quite a distance from my hotel, so I'll be getting up at about 4:30am... So I need all the motivation possible to help me wake up, get out of bed and actually go out running before dawn (and before a long day at the Conference!)
Fundraising for the run is not essential (the entry fee I paid goes to the J&J Vision Foundation), but I've decided to use it as an opportunity to raise money for the Dorset Blind Association - a really good cause, and celebrating their centenary this year.
As eye surgeons, we try to prevent and reverse blindness. Unfortunately, sometimes we fail. We don't have the answer for everything. For people with visual impairment, the world can be a lonely and frightening place. The DBA do fantastic work helping people in Dorset with visual impairment to live full and happy lives. They are not funded by the government or RNIB, so 100% of what they do needs to be supported through fundraising. That's where you come in....
